Junior Blue
In Junior Blue, most of the students are beginning their Junior Cycle journey. There are currently nine students in our class this year. The students range from 11-13 years of age. Some students in this class are in year 1 and year 2 of the Junior Cycle Level 2 Learning Programme, and some students are finishing the Primary Curriculum.
The Level 2 Learning Programme is centred around Priority Learning Units (PLUs) that develop the basic, social and pre-vocational skills of the students involved. The PLUs that are taught in the Level 2 Learning Programme are as follows;
Numeracy
Communication and Language
Personal Care
Living in a Community
Preparing for Work
Extra Subjects also taught include;
SESE, Religion, PE, Music, Drama, Woodwork, Cookery and Mindfulness.
Throughout the teaching and learning of the Level 2 Learning Programme are 8 Key Skills, as seen in the Framework for Junior Cycle;
Communicating
Being Literate
Managing Myself
Staying Well
Managing Information and Thinking
Being Numerate
Being Creative
Working with Others
The children participate in many extra curricular activities throughout the school week such as dancing/yoga and meditation with Rose, art with Mr Timoney, cookery with Mrs Leonard, and computers with Agnes. Some of our students do work experience with Mr. Maloney. Occasionally we get external coaches into the school for activities such as gaelic, athletics and skipping.
As you can see, our days here at St. Brigid’s School are action packed and full of various learning opportunities. We will post often on our blog showing you all the impressive work we are doing throughout the school day.
